Stay positive and stay in touch
It is often said that software developers can practice social isolation whilst in a room full of people, we are naturally self contained.
Today’s new world whilst difficult for us all is necessary, and it is encouraging how the human spirit is finding myriad ways of staying in touch and supporting each other.
The Internet is often described as a source of much of the negativity that pervades society, from ‘fake news’ to social trolling. Many of us have found that ‘working from home’ is often more productive as the minute to minute distractions are not there. I currently have three offices set up around my home all of us productive for different organisations.
Over the last few weeks we have found within Crowd Data Systems that social interaction (even in a SAAS company) is vital for mental wellbeing. Although we are used to Google meeting or Zoom, these were often simply treated as useful mechanisms for conference calls. Today we have noticed that everyone turns on their camera, we all need human contact and it is easy to do. There are some interesting hair styles on show, maybe hairdressers should be classed as essential services.
Every situation offers opportunity, there has been an accelerated take up of our forecasting tool ‘Vision’ over the last few weeks as enterprises try to manage their cash through this crisis in a more responsive way. Old forecasting methods (even the much promoted AI processes) cannot respond quickly in a Pandemic situation.
We have noticed a change in approach, in the past much of the consolidation by division, region, country was impersonal (it was just data). Now our users have found that having the ability to give online access to all the contributors in real time allows them a better and more responsive forecast. The Treasurer or CFO can now drill down see individuals reasons for the variances they are trying to control.
As they say ‘It’s good to talk’. When this crisis is over the world of work may change for the better.
Stay positive and stay safe
